If you have ever asked me for a product recommendation at Apollo Dermatology, you may have noticed something: I do not hand them out lightly. The shelf in my office is short on purpose. I would rather carry five products I genuinely believe in than fifty that simply look good in a display case.
When patients put their skin in my hands … whether for Mohs surgery, an acne plan, or daily prevention … they are also trusting me to tell them what is actually worth their money. That trust is the whole reason I am cautious about what we sell. If I would not put it on my own face, or recommend it to my parents, it does not belong on our shelf.
Sunscreen Is Where I Am the Most Particular
Of every category in dermatology, sunscreen is the one I have spent the most time evaluating. Over the course of my training and career as a board-certified dermatologist, I have personally tested more than 500 sunscreens. Some I tried for a single day. Some I wore for weeks. A handful I have come back to again and again.
I take this seriously because I see, on a near-daily basis, what happens when sun protection fails over a lifetime … the skin cancers I remove, the precancers I treat, the photoaging patients wish they could undo. A great sunscreen is one of the highest-leverage things you can do for your skin, and a mediocre one is a missed opportunity.
A sunscreen has to clear a high bar before I will recommend it, let alone carry it. It has to feel good enough that you will actually wear it every day. It has to offer real, broad-spectrum protection. And it has to look good on a wide range of skin tones … because a sunscreen that leaves a white cast is a sunscreen that gets left in the drawer.
What I Carry In-House … And What I Have Been Searching For
Patients of Apollo Dermatology already know I am proud of our Apollo Sunscreen, formulated to meet the standard I set for my own family. It remains my top recommendation as our in-house option.
But I have always wanted to give patients a second outstanding choice … a sunscreen made by an outside manufacturer that I could stand behind without reservation. After hundreds of trials, one finally won me over.
Introducing ISDIN Eryfotona Tinted Sunscreen
The best outside sunscreen I have ever tested is ISDIN Eryfotona Tinted. Here is why I am genuinely impressed by it:
- It looks beautiful on the skin. The tint blends in seamlessly and gives the complexion a subtle, polished finish … the kind of finish that makes you want to wear it.
- It offers a high level of broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays, which is what actually matters for skin cancer prevention and anti-aging.
- It is 100% mineral-based. The active sunscreen filters are mineral, which I prefer for sensitive skin, post-procedure skin, and anyone who wants a clean ingredient profile.
- It has 40 minutes of water resistance, which makes it a realistic choice for everyday wear and for patients who sweat or are active outdoors.
- The texture is an ultralight emulsion. It does not feel thick, greasy, or heavy … a problem most mineral sunscreens have historically struggled with.
- It performs beautifully across many skin tones. This was a non-negotiable for me. Several of the mineral sunscreens I have tested in the past simply do not work for medium to darker skin tones. This one does.
For a tinted mineral sunscreen to do all of that in a single formulation is rare. It is the reason this product earned a place at our practice.
Coming Soon to Apollo Dermatology
I am proud to announce that Apollo Dermatology will begin carrying ISDIN Eryfotona Tinted in our office in the near future. When it arrives, our front desk team will let you know … and of course, we are happy to help you decide whether the Apollo Sunscreen, the ISDIN Eryfotona Tinted, or both belong in your daily routine.
The shelf stays short on purpose. But when something earns a spot, I want you to know exactly why.
