Complications Arising from Procedures Done by Other Physicians – Our Policy

As a dermatology office, our primary focus is on the health and well-being of our patients. We strive to provide the best possible care and treatment for our patients, utilizing our expertise in skin health and dermatological procedures. However, there are times when patients come to us seeking treatment for complications arising from procedures done by other physicians or offices. While we would like to be able to help in these situations, we must unfortunately decline.

There are several reasons why our dermatology office cannot treat the complications of procedures done by other physicians or offices. Some of the main reasons include:

  1. Lack of information: When patients come to us seeking treatment for complications arising from procedures done by other physicians or offices, we often lack critical information that would be necessary to provide safe and effective treatment. We may not have access to the patient’s medical records, imaging studies, or other important information that would be necessary to properly diagnose and treat the problem.
  2. Risk of liability: Treating complications arising from procedures done by other physicians or offices can carry a high risk of liability for our practice. There is a risk that any treatment we provide could be seen as exacerbating the problem, or that we could be held responsible for any negative outcomes that occur. This risk is simply too great for us to take on, especially without access to the full medical history and details of the previous procedure.
  3. Different treatment protocols: Different physicians and offices may have different treatment protocols or approaches to procedures, and we may not be familiar with the specific techniques used. Attempting to treat a complication arising from a procedure we are unfamiliar with could lead to unintended consequences, including further complications or even harm to the patient.
  4. Ethical considerations: As medical professionals, we have a duty to act in the best interests of our patients. In some cases, providing treatment for complications arising from procedures done by other physicians or offices may not be in the best interests of the patient. We may not be able to provide the same level of care or guarantee the same outcomes as the original physician or office, and it would be unethical for us to mislead patients into believing otherwise.

In summary, while we understand the frustration and discomfort that can come with experiencing complications from a previous procedure, our dermatology office must prioritize the safety and well-being of our patients above all else. We recommend that patients seek treatment from the physician or office that originally performed the procedure, or from another medical professional who is better equipped to address the specific complications.
